Why do you want to do this?
We all know what a time consuming pain in the neck it is to keep looking for things on our computer because we can’t remember where we stored them. With search you can find an old email, document or photo.
Search in Windows 8 is located on a hidden toolbar. Below we will show you how to find it and also your missing files.
How do you do this?
1. Move your cursor to either the top right or bottom right corner of your Windows screen to display the hidden toolbar. You will see a few translucent icons.
2. Move your cursor to the magnifying glass icon titled “Search” to display a black bar on the right side of your screen, as shown in the image below from Microsoft.
3. Click on the search icon to display a blue screen with many icons and a search box in the upper right hand corner, as shown in the image below from Microsoft. Below the search box are options based on what you are searching for. For example, if you want to search for documents and photos, select “Files.”
4. Once you’ve selected what you want to search for, click in the search bar and type in any word that describes what you are looking for, and the search begins. You don’t have to remember which file or folder you have put something in.
Shortcut: If you press the Windows key and the “X” key on your keyboard at the same time, you will see the menu in the bottom left corner of your screen, as shown in the image below from Microsoft. When the menu comes up, left click on the button labeled “Search” to display the blue screen with the search bar described in Step 3 above.
